ABOUT STRING THEORY JIU-JITSU

At String Theory Jiu-Jitsu, women of all experience levels are welcomed into a clean, safe, and empowering environment. Our program helps women build strength, confidence, peak athletic fitness, and practical self-defense skills in a supportive community. While learning to protect yourself is essential, it’s only the beginning—you’ll also develop focus, discipline, and resilience that extend far beyond the mats.

Every class is an opportunity to challenge yourself, build confidence, and connect with others who share the same passion for growth and empowerment. String Theory was founded by Sam Bretado in Mahopac New York; who has spent over a decade studying the art—traveling, training, coaching, and competing in prestigious and high profile competitions. Passionate about sharing his knowledge, Sam helps students of all levels achieve their Jiu-Jitsu goals by combining practical techniques with sound theory. A Black Belt under JT Torres, he works with newcomers, competitors, athletes, and children alike.

  • There is absolutely no experience or fitness background required. We believe that you do not need to be in shape, to get in shape. Everyone has their own starting point, and we all know the hardest part is getting started which is why our beginner GI class is a perfect starting point for everyone.

  • No, not at all! Our program is designed for beginners to learn from scratch, regardless of fitness level or athletic background. Our approach supports focusing on technique over strength and makes it accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

  • Yes! We have separate locker rooms and changing areas for men and women, each with showers, so everyone can feel comfortable, safe, and relaxed while getting ready.
